Ten campus spaces you can walk through in 3D
ResearchSince 20253D Gaussian Splatting · Nerfstudio · CloudCompare · Insta360
Problem
A building model tells you what was designed. Photogrammetry tells you what is there. Bridging the two usually means an expensive scan and a manual alignment pass that nobody repeats often enough for the model to stay true.
Approach
Capture with consumer 360° hardware, reconstruct with Gaussian splatting, then register the result back onto the BIM coordinate frame so the captured space and the designed space can be compared directly.
What I built
- Capture pipeline from Insta360 X5 footage through MipMap and Nerfstudio reconstruction.
- BIM alignment via CloudCompare and SuperSplat, bringing splats into the model's coordinate frame.
- Coverage across 10 campus spaces.
Results
- A walkable spatial record of 10 spaces, registered to the building model.
